:: ABOUT ME ::

Hi there! I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself, the creator of this website for Marat Safin! My name is Christine, and I have been a fan of Marat since 2000. I first saw Marat play in the TMS Canada, where he beat Pete Sampras in the quarterfinals. He then went on to beat Wayne Ferreira in the semis and Harel Levy in the final! It was his first TMS title! I have always been a tennis fan, as I kind of grew up watching it because my parents are also tennis nuts, but never have I been so interested as I was after watching Marat that day. I just could not believe how young and talented he was, not to mention that he was just about the best looking guy I have ever seen in my life! I remember his speech after he won the title in Canada, and hearing that voice, and seeing his humour, I was even more hooked.

Much to my delight, I was able to watch him a couple of weeks later at the US Open, where he went on to win the title, by beating Pete Sampras once again, but this time in the final! I was on pins and needles all during that match, but after the first 2 sets had been won by Marat, I managed to calm down a little bit. And I've never looked back! Here it is, 2003 already, and I am still just as big a fan of Marat as I've ever been! As I'm sure all of Marat's fans would agree, following Marat is like one big roller coaster ride!

It is so much fun to watch him play, and his on-court personality just makes him that much more exciting to watch. Not to mention the racquet smashing!! Thanks to Marat, I have met a lot of fun and interesting people from the internet. I never thought that was possible, until tennis, and Marat, took over my life. I first discovered maratsafin.com, which was the only up to date Marat site at the time, and there I met a lot of great people on the forum. We have all been through Marat's ups and downs, wins and losses, health and injuries, and other dramas together. Like I said before, it has been a fun and exciting roller coaster ride with this guy!

Once the owner of maratsafin.com decided to close his forum, there were a lot of lost Safin fans, including myself, with nowhere to go and talk about Marat and vent our feelings about him and tennis in general. That is when I decided to create my Marat Safin Forum. It has been about one year now since I started the forum so that Marat's fans would have a place to gather. It has since turned into the biggest Marat Safin forum on the net, with thousands of visitors each week! It is also a great place to get the most up to date news about Marat, as well as interviews, articles and photos.

I had so much fun creating the forum, which is always a work in progress, that I didn't stop there. I also created a conglomeration of Marat's most hilarious quotes. If you haven't seen my Marat quotes page, you should check it out! Especially if you're in the mood for a good laugh! Marat is one funny guy! This page normally keeps me the busiest, as when Marat is playing, and being interviewed, he's always good for a few funny quotes. Lately though, with Marat out injured and not playing or talking to reporters, I've been able to take a little break and work on some other projects.

Which brings me to this website! I've always wanted to create a website for Marat, but never really had the time. Luckily, this summer I am not working, so I have a lot of free time to make this website! It is a huge undertaking! Marat has been on the tour since 1997, and although he didn't really begin to make his mark until 1998 at Roland Garros, where he took out Agassi and Kuerten as an 18 year old, I still have a good 5-6 years of articles, interviews, photos and information to catch up on! I've decided since there is so much out there, that I would concentrate on his most recent interviews, photos and such from 2003 and work my way back from there. That way this site will stay up to date. I have also added some of my favourite interviews and articles from the past years just to spice things up a bit! And as for the years before that, I will be working on gathering that information and putting it on the site as time allows. It may be a life-long process!

Christine
